A middle school gym teacher is accused of having a relationship with an underage student who was between the 8th and 9th grades at the time of the alleged assault.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced in a press release Tuesday that Shawnetta D. Reece of Blairsville, Georgia, was allegedly sexually involved with a 15-year-old student in 2013.

Reece, now 40, has been charged with child molestation and sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority.

The investigation reportedly began after GBI received a tip about the alleged relationship. Reece was reportedly a gym teacher at a middle school in Union County at the time.

It is unclear if Reece has secured an attorney or how she intends to respond to the charges.
