A Detroit, Michigan, woman is reportedly facing jail time if she doesn’t get her son vaccinated.
Rebecca Bredow told WXYZ that she has a week to get her son vaccinated or be thrown behind bars. The ruling comes after the child’s father petitioned an Oakland County court to get their son immunized.
“I would rather sit behind bars standing up for what I believe in, than giving in to something I strongly don’t believe in,” Bredow told the station.
The mother of two claimed she and her ex-husband agreed to space out the children’s vaccines. She said issues arose when doctors wanted to administer multiple shots in a short period of time.

Bredow said she applied for a waiver after learning that a child can be exempted from vaccinations for religious, personal, and medical reasons. She claims that’s when the child’s father took the issue to court.
“I feel angry. I feel backed into a corner. I feel like my rights as a parent have been taken away,” Bredow commented.
The Detroit woman noted that she is the primary caregiver to her son. She said she doesn’t understand why a judge didn’t consider both parents’ wishes in their ruling.
Bredow asked, “Why automatically side with the father that wants the vaccines? What about my choice as a mother?”
The mother said she’s using the next few days to figure out how to avoid jail. It’s unclear how long she could be imprisoned for disobeying the court order.
