A 15-year-old Alabama girl was charged with two counts of capital murder for allegedly stabbing her mother and older sister to death last week.
The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports that deputies found the bodies of Rosa Aminta Maldonado, 44, and her daughter, Rosa Lee Maldonado, 19, (pictured left and right) in their Lester home at 1 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies reportedly discovered the mother’s 15-year-old daughter at the scene stabbing herself in the head and neck.
While a motive is not yet known, police said preliminary evidence suggests the fatal stabbing occurred during a domestic dispute.
“We received a call a little after 1:00 this morning from what we believe is one of the victims here in the residence saying her sister was trying to stab her,” said Limestone County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Stephen Young told WHNT.
Sheriff Mike Blakely described the 911 call as “chilling” and “one of the worst calls” he’s listened to in his 41-year career. He said the mother and daughter can be heard begging the 15-year-old to stop. He said much of the 911 call—which hasn’t been released to the public—is in Spanish and investigators are in the process of translating it.
This isn’t the first time tragedy has struck the Alabama family.
The Democrat & Chronicle noted that Rosa Aminto Moldanado’s daughter and Rosa Lee Moldanado’s older sister, Katherine Sanchez, 15, was raped and strangled by her 21-year-old brother-in-law, Carlos Cardenas, in January 2011. He then buried Sanchez’s body in an apple orchard where he used to work. Cardenas is currently serving a 21-year sentence for the teen’s second-degree murder.
The 15-year-old is reportedly being hospitalized for self-inflicted stab wounds caused by a butcher knife. Her name isn’t being released due to her age.
