A Kentucky woman was sentenced to 16 years behind bars after pleading guilty to sexually abusing her 4-year-old son.
Kelly Lynn South, 40, of Louisville, reportedly pled guilty to charges of incest, sodomy and sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12, according to The Courier-Journal. As part of the plea agreement, a judge ordered that South must register as a lifetime sex offender.
South was reportedly arrested in October 2015. According to WLKY, she confessed at the time of her arrest to sodomizing her child.
The abuse reportedly took place between September 2012 — when the child would have been an infant — and September 2015.
Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear announced the sentencing in a news release, which read in part:
I want to thank Metro Police and our Special Prosecutions Unit for handling this horrific case. It’s unimaginable the suffering this victim endured and will endure. This court action held accountable the victim’s abuser and brought some justice for the crimes against the victim.
It is not known who now has custody of South’s child.
