A heavily tattooed sex offender who was the target of a massive manhunt has been captured, according to the Associated Press.
Matthew Ezekiel Stager was captured in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday after numerous reported sightings. The convicted sex offender, who stands out in a crowd, had not reported to a required appointment at a transitional center following his release from a federal prison in Virginia this past Thursday. He was supposed to fly to the residential re-entry center in Texas that same day, but instead went on the lam.
According to The Washington Post, Stager was convicted in 1999 for indecent liberties with a minor, and required to register as a sex offender from that point forward. He reportedly failed to register in 2013, which landed him in the Virginia prison, where he had been serving what was initially a five-year-sentence.
Stager has numerous, distinctive tattoos covering his face and neck as well as an usual hairstyle. He reportedly has a history of mental illness.
