He’s only been married seven months, but there’s already trouble in paradise for an elderly Lee County, Florida, man, who was arrested for shooting his wife for lack of sex.
New York Daily News reports that Donald Royce, 76, confessed that his sex life hasn’t been ideal, which made him pick up a gun in his room and shoot his 62-year-old wife in the buttocks. According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office report, the frustrated husband said that their marriage still hadn’t been consummated, even though they’ve been married since August.
The bickering bride and groom’s roommate told police that she heard two gunshots coming from their bedroom. She rushed in to check on things, and Royce pointed the gun at her. She talked him into putting the gun down. An ambulance picked up the victim and took her to Lee Memorial Hospital, with wounds to her hip and butt.
When police arrived to the home, Royce immediately confessed, although he stated he was aiming for the mattress—yet somehow ended up shooting his wife’s back side.
ABC Four Corners spoke with Royce’s wife on Tuesday evening. She said that she’d been with Royce for six years prior to marriage, and she never thought he would do something so violent. She described the incident as a “nightmare,” and wanted other women to know that it’s never OK for men to act violently. She’s already back home where the incident occurred, recovering from her injuries. Royce is still sleeping alone—in jail.
Royce was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He’s still behind bars with a bond amount of $100,000.
