There’s new information in the case of a Riverside, California, teacher who allegedly had an affair with a 14-year-old student.
Camryn Zelinger, 32, was arrested earlier this week on charges of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and annoying or molesting a child under 18.
And it was reportedly the child’s mother who first discovered the abuse.

The mother of the victim, whose name has not been revealed in order to protect the minor’s identity, told KTLA 5 that she learned of the relationship after snooping on her daughter’s phone.
“I’m a nosy mother,” she said. “And I grabbed her phone. And I looked at texts from this teacher, sexting my baby over the phone, over the texts – just all this stuff.”
But it wasn’t just nosiness – the mother’s instincts told her something wasn’t right. And she first tried to talk to her daughter to find out what was going on.
“She wouldn’t tell me, she was too afraid,” the mother told the news station. “She kept saying, ‘Nothing, mom, nothing, mom.’ But I knew something was wrong.”
Parents at the Encore High School for the Arts told KTLA that Zelinger would ask to remove the student from other classrooms in order to spend time with her. She was reportedly recently married.
Zelinger is no longer employed at the school.
Speaking to KTLA, the family’s attorney dismissed any speculation that the relationship may have been consensual.
“This teacher used her position of power and trust to sort of manipulate this child into doing things that this child thought she had to do,” he said. At age 14, he said, she “is legally incapable of forming consent.”
