A 2-year-old boy was shot and killed in Chicago while riding in a car with family members — and the shooting ambush was caught on a chilling Facebook Live video.
Lavontay White, 2, was in the backseat of a car with his pregnant aunt and her boyfriend on Chicago’s West Side, and his aunt Breunna Devonte, 20, was taking a Facebook Live video while the passengers listened to music, singing along. Suddenly, shots rang out.
The shooting is believed to be gang-related. According to WGN-TV, Lavontay was shot in the head and later died at the scene. It appears that Devonte’s 26-year-old boyfriend, who has not been identified, was also killed. He was reportedly a documented gang member.
In the Facebook Live video. Devonte’s phone continues to record as she flees the car, injured, and enters a home, possibility of a relative. She can be overheard saying she has a bullet in the stomach. At one point, she appears to say, “I can’t go to the hospital. They’ll send me to jail.”
Devonte is reportedly in critical condition and her unborn baby survived the shooting.
Lavontay is among three children to be shot in Chicago within four days. One of those victims, Takiya Holmes, died in the hospital Tuesday morning after being taken off life support.
