Utah polygamist Kain Blackwing had a problem: He had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl and she was about to testify against him in court for rape charges.
Rather than face the music, Blackwing, 47, hatched a plan to dispatch two of his wives, Raven and Diana Blackwing, to murder the girl and solve the problem.
“He was convinced that if [the rape victim] were dead, the authorities would have to release him,” read court documents obtained by the Salt Lake City Tribune.
Ultimately, Rain’s wife Raven and a 19-year-old accomplice, who Blackwing had reportedly “claimed” as his wife, committed the crime — which did not succeed in killing the teen girl.
They reportedly spent 11 weeks planning the attack, periodically surveilling the girl’s home, where she lived with her mother and the mother’s fiancé. On the night of the crime, Raven and the accomplice reportedly broke in, allegedly armed with a knife, screwdriver, cellophane, matches, syringes and Formalin, a toxic chemical that causes a loss of consciousness.
But the mother’s fiancé was awakened by the sound of footsteps; and when he went to check on the noise, he found two people dressed in black, resembling ninjas, who lunged at him and tried to grab him by the throat. He described the terrifying encounter to Fox News 13:
I heard a creak, and there was silence for about 30 seconds. I went to the bottom of the stairs and saw a couple of ninjas coming down. They were all dark gray or black, and they had black rubber gloves on and masks. All I could see was their eyes. My adrenaline was pumping so bad. They grabbed for me and one of them covered my mouth, and the other grabbed my throat, but they were both pretty small so I threw them back and started shouting to get anybody awake that I could.
Kain and his wives Raven and Diana were charged with attempted murder and solicitation and conspiracy to commit murder. Raven was ordered to serve up to 15 years for her part. The 19-year-old, who remains unnamed because she is a victim of sexual assault, received a year of probation.
Kain was reportedly having a sexual relationship with the 19-year-old which began when she was 17. He is charged with multiple counts of rape, forcible sodomy and forcible sexual abuse against her. While she was being abused, the victim said Kain instructed her to call him “Lord” because he was a god. He also allegedly told her that if he bonded with a woman, she became his, and the only way out of the entanglement was death.
As of this writing, Kain has been cooling his heels in the Beaver County Jail since being found guilty of sexually assaulting the 14-year-old girl.
