A 3-year-old child was allegedly murdered by her own godmother while her mom was away having a baby.

According to CBS News, Danielle Turner of Richmond, Virginia, pleaded no contest to the second-degree murder of 3-year-old Latrice Walden. Turner was babysitting the little girl as her mother, Nikki Brown, had just given birth.

The little girl died in February 2016 at her home. According to an autopsy report obtained by WTVR, Latrice died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Police told the news station that Turner initially claimed that the toddler hit her head on a faucet after she slipped and fell in the bathtub. She waited six hours after the purported incident to call 911.

An autopsy later found that the little girl had been beaten over an extended period of time. She reportedly had over 60 bruises on her body and had suffered trauma to her skull.

According to WTVR, Turner admitted that she “popped” the child a few times in the head over the weekend she was watching her.

Turner, 25, and Latrice’s mother had been friends for over ten years.

Last year, the Richmond Circuit Court reportedly ruled that Turner was not competent to stand trial. She faces up to 40 years in prison and will be sentenced in June.
