A North Carolina man is in custody for the brutal beating death of his girlfriend’s two-year-old daughter.

After a four-daylong manhunt, reports WNCN, authorities apprehended Brandon Michael Smith, who is accused of murdering his girlfriend’s toddler daughter in a Florida hotel room on March 22.

Smith, 36, is suspected of beating Alayna Williamson multiple times with a blunt object at an an Intown Suites in Jacksonville, Florida. The little girl was rushed to a hospital there where she later died of blunt force trauma to the head.

A subsequent investigation identified Smith as the suspect in her death. It is not known if the mother was present at the hotel at the time.

According to the news station, Smith was arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina as part of a wider sting operation.

Smith has been transported back to Jacksonville to face the murder charges.
