A 2-month-old boy is in a Fort Worth hospital after his mother allegedly threw him into a door because he wouldn’t stop crying.
Dallas News reports that emergency responders were called to a home in Mineral Wells after a frantic woman called 911 and said her baby was sick. Once they arrived, however, they determined the situation was much more serious. The caller, identified as 24-year-old Brooke Lauren Reed, found huddled over a young baby by the front door, reportedly admitted that she threw her baby into a wall because he wouldn’t stop crying.
The baby was airlifted and transported to a helicopter landing pad. From there, he was flown to Cooks Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. His condition is currently listed as “guarded.”
After admitting she harmed the baby, Reed was taken into police custody. She’s facing a felony charge of “injury to a child with serious bodily injury.” As of Friday, she was still behind bars on a $750,000 bond.
Police Chief Dean Sullivan of the Mineral Wells Police Department said that the investigation is ongoing as the child’s medical condition is monitored. Should the baby’s condition get worse, the charges against Reed could be updated.
“Detectives are continuing their investigation and monitoring the condition of the child. Should the child take a turn for the worse, the charge could be upgraded.”
The story is still developing. Check back with Crime Online later as additional details become available.
