The president of a California school board was arrested on suspicion of trafficking in child pornography, authorities announced Thursday.
Buena Park School District Board president Dennis Brian Chambers, 50, was supposedly found with thousands of illicit photos and videos of children on an electronic storage device after police traced an IP address back to his home, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Authorities claimed that Internet Crimes Against Task Force detectives determined that Chambers was trafficking child porn in Fontana following a tip from authorities in Flathead County, Montana. According to My News LA, Fontana police Sgt. Kevin Goltara said the Buena Park man has a pest control company that might have taken him out to Fontana.
District superintendent Greg Magnuson, who called Chambers’ arrest “shocking and greatly disturbing,” provided the following statement:
“As an elected official, Mr. Chambers was always accompanied by adult staff members whenever he was in contact with students while visiting our campuses. Nevertheless, as this case proceeds, he will be asked to refrain from attending school functions or being on any of our school campuses.”
CBS Los Angeles reported that the school board held a special closed-door meeting on Friday afternoon to discuss possible litigation in light of the 50-year-old’s arrest.
Chambers is supposedly a father and grandfather. The Orange County District Attorney’s Office claimed that he is facing one felony count each of possession and distribution of child pornography. He also could be subjected to a sentencing enhancement for allegedly possessing 600 photos and 10 or more images of a prepubescent minor.
Chambers is being held at Santa Ana Central Jail on $250,000 bail.
