A federal prosecutor from the U.S. Attorney’s office has been found dead on a Hollywood, Florida, beach.
According to the Miami Herald, Beranton J. Whisenant Jr., 37, was found dead by a passerby in the water at Hollywood Beach Wednesday morning. Police believe he may have died from a gunshot wound to the head or some other type of trauma. It is not yet known where he died.
“The investigation is still very preliminary,” Hollywood Police Department spokeswoman Miranda Grossman told the Miami Herald.
“All I can confirm is that it is him,” she said.
Whisenant reportedly worked in the major crimes section of the U.S. Attorney’s office, prosecuting criminal and civil cases throughout southern Florida.
The Miami Herald was unable to get a comment from the office about the circumstances of Whisenant’s death.
