Alert: Serial rapist found victims online

A Texas man admitted to raping three women he met online.

According to the Dallas Morning News, LDarrius Garner, 21, pleaded guilty to three charges of sexual assault and one count of robbery. Garner had been accused of assaulting women he met on the online via the Kik app and Meetme.com.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by the Star-Telegram, Garner is believed to have driven his victims to remote areas, where he “he frequently sexually assaulted them and robbed them using force, threat of force, and occasionally a weapon.”

Though Garner was charged for only four instanced, the Star-Telegram reported last year that he was being investigation in connection to nine assaults.

“There are still several active investigations that could result in additional charges,” a Fort Worth sex crimes detective told the newspaper in July. “Additionally, there are some victims who do not want to pursue criminal charges for personal reasons.”

The detective warned social media users to use caution when meeting people in person.

“Social media sites such as MeetMe and Kik have a documented history of providing predators with a cloak of anonymity that they use to victimize unsuspecting men and women.”

Garner has reportedly been sentenced to four consecutive 15-year sentenced. He faced a maximum of 20 years on each charge.

A spokesman for the Tarrant County district attorney’s office told the Dallas Morning News that Garner will be eligible for parole after serving half of his sentence.
