A former Boy Scouts leader, a den mother, has been placed under arrest for possession of child porn, according to WMC Action News 5.
Christina McCafferty, 38, has been charged with sexual indecency with a child and computer child pornography. She once led the Marion, Arkansas, chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, according to WREG.
It was only through an anonymous tip that investigators learned, and confirmed, of the Arkansas woman’s involvement with the Boy Scouts of America.
McCafferty was fired for an undisclosed reason around three months ago, according to Scout Leader Jason Goodbar. Chickasaw Council Scout Executive Richard Fisher has also declined to disclose the reason for her dismissal.
“She has been removed from scouting quite some time ago,” Fisher stated. “It’s our understanding that this incident has nothing to do with the Boy Scouts.”
An unidentified man, who underwent training with McCafferty, thought she was “caring,” at first, but now believes she ingratiated herself with the group in order to target vulnerable kids.
“At the time I thought she was trying to help. At the time she told me this boy comes from a single-parent household,” he told WREG. “She was sending messages trying to work her way into something physical or sexual.”
The man also claimed to know two potential victims, though the nature of their victimhood remains unclear. He did suggest that the Boy Scouts of America handled the situation almost immediately.
“That’s one reason I haven’t completely lost faith in the scouts. As soon as they had any knowledge that anything was going on they separated her away from all activity.”
It has been reported that the ex-den mother has yet to post bond.
