A southern California woman who was found guilty in the death of a 4-month-old boy she was watching for a friend, was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison reports KTLA.
Brittany Ann Ingrassi, 31, was convicted last month in the death of Aiden Lopez, who died in March 2016. Ingrassi, who was a longtime friend of Aiden’s father, was babystting the child in Lancaster, California. When the Aiden’s mother came to pick him up at the end of the day, Ingrassi met her outside and informed her the boy was not breathing.
The mother called 911 and Aiden was taken to the hospital where he was found to have skull fractures, bruising on his upper torso, and a traumatic brain injury. He died of his injuries four days later.
Ingrassi pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder, assault on a child becoming comatose, child abuse and assault on a child causing death. Defense attorneys initially suggested the child’s death may have been due to a dog attack, reported the Antelope Valley Times.
According to KTLA, during Ingrassi’s trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Ingrassi was “unhappy with her work as a babysitter and was under the influence of alcohol when she was watching the child.”
A jury found Ingrassi guilty of the charges on May 9. Ingrassi is currently in the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, an all-female jail facility that houses all Los Angeles County female inmates.
