The Boston man accused of beating his girlfriend’s daughter to death because she was possessed by “demons” has been found guilty of second-degree murder.
CNN reports that a jury found Michael McCarthy guilty of murdering 2-year-old Bella Bond in 2015. Her body was found near the Boston Harbor two summers ago. Her mother, Rachelle Bond, pled guilty to helping McCarthy dispose of the body.
Bella Bond was referred to in the media as “Baby Doe” before investigators were able to identify the toddler’s body. An acquaintance of the couple tipped off police that the little girl had not been seen for a while, and her mother had claimed her daughter had been taken by child services.
Rachelle’s plea deal required her to testify against her former boyfriend at his murder trial, while his defense team argued that she alone was responsible.
In the end, the jury sided with the prosecutors, who argued that McCarthy beat the little girl to death. Her mother testified at his trial that McCarthy threatened to kill her if she tried to help her little girl.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more information when it becomes available.
