An Alabama grandmother allegedly forced her 13-year-old granddaughter to have sex with her and her 87-year-old boyfriend, who is accused of paying the woman so he could violate the child.
Mary Lue Daw, 66, has been charged with first-degree rape and human trafficking in connection with the assault, AL.com reports.
Her boyfriend, Charles Clarence Stacey, 87, faces charges of first-degree human trafficking, first-degree rape, child enticement and promoting prostitution.
Daw reportedly called Stacey to her home in Atmore, Alabama — about 50 miles northeast of Mobile — and arranged the sexual encounter with the granddaughter, court records show.
Stacey was able to get the girl into a back bedroom of the home, paid her to have sex and then threatened to harm her if she “did not participate in sexual servitude,” records show.
Daw herself also had sexual intercourse with the girl, according to multiple news organizations. The Atmore News reported that Daw may have “held the youngster down” as Stacey assaulted the girl.
While it was not immediately clear when the rape happened, Daw’s neighbors told WEAR-TV that they would often see Stacey at the woman’s house but did not know what was occurring inside.
“I was in shock and had no idea something was going on,” Alene Colbert told the news station. “You see the children out playing. I just had no idea.”
Stacey and Daw are each being held on million-dollar bonds in the Escambia County Jail. They are scheduled to be arraigned in November, AL.com reports.
If Stacey and Daw are released from jail on bond, they will be prohibited from having contact with the victim, her family and any children.
The Atmore Police Department and the Escambia County Department of Human Resources are still investigating the case.
