A Kentucky man admitted that he threw his 3-month-old son against the wall, killing him, after the little boy wouldn’t stop crying.
FOX 8 reports that Cody Bates, 24, initially told police that his infant fell off of the couch in early June, while sleeping at their Louisville home off of Jessica Allen Drive. Yet, the evidence didn’t match his story.
According to a medical examination, the infant had skull fractures and brain bleeding that wasn’t consistent with simply falling off of a couch. When detectives pressed Bates, he broke and told the truth.
“I was standing right about the middle of the table. I flung him over and he missed this thing and actually hit the floor right there with his head up….I was just tired. I over-slung my son. Now I don’t even have my best friend anymore.”
Bates reportedly cried repeatedly over the incident, but while on the way to the police station, he began explaining ways that the baby’s death would allow him and the baby’s mother more freedom and time.
“She’s going to go back to school for nursing and all that. I mean, I hate to say it, but I mean now would probably be a better time now that we just lost our son.”
Once at the police station, detectives reminded Bates that he was facing a murder charge. The suspect broke down in tears again after he realized was “going to lose everything.”
“I’m going to go to jail. I’m going to lose my job. I’m going to lose her. I’m going to lose everything.”
Bates was booked into the Metro Corrections on a $1 million bond. He’s not allowed to contact his son’s mother or her family.
