Authorities announced on Friday that the 2016 death of a 10-year-old Maryland girl was ruled a homicide. Her father, previously arrested for child abuse, could possibly face murder charges.
NBC Washington reports that Prince George’s County police announced that Elanis Milfort, who died in 2016 while undergoing spinal surgery, passed away during surgery complications. Her spine issues stemmed from head trauma she developed as an infant in 2006. Her father, Lionel Milfort, was arrested for child abuse when Elanis was just 6 months old.
A medical examiner ruled the girl’s death as a homicide in late June. Cold case detectives are currently investigating and will ultimately determine if Milfort will be charged with homicide. Milton was released from prison in 2014 after serving time for the child abuse conviction.
