A Cleveland, Ohio, boy underwent emergency surgery after someone opened fire on his mother during an extreme road rage incident on Sunday night.
ABC5 Cleveland reports that the incident happened on I-90 East, close to Dead Man’s Curve at around 11:55 p.m. in the evening. Cleveland police said that the little boy’s mother began honking her car horn repeatedly at a driver in a white Pontiac, after he apparently blocked the entrance on West 28th Street and Division Avenue. Witnesses said two men were standing by the Pontiac when the woman started honking.
The woman, whose name is unknown, said she had to wait around five to eight minutes before the Pontiac moved out of the way. As she passed by, the driver followed her close to Dead Man’s Curve, where someone in the vehicle began firing shots at her. The woman said the driver of the Pontiac pulled right beside her. Her 4-year-old son was shot in the head. A 7-year-old was in the car as well, but escaped uninjured.
The woman drove off of I-90 and exited at the East 55th Street ramp, where she called 911. Cleveland CMS rushed the child to the University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. Fortunately, the bullet didn’t hit the little boy’s brain. Surgeons removed the bullet, and so far, it seems the boy will likely survive.
Two black men were in the Pontiac, but other than that, witnesses didn’t give further explanation. The woman involved in the incident said she didn’t know who they were.
Anyone with information should contact police immediately.
