Police have arrested a once-deported undocumented citizen and accused him of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old Utah girl “thousands of times.”
The Spectrum has reported that Victor Francisco Michel-Lara, 32, allegedly abused the girl numerous times within a 6-month period. Michel-Lara allegedly admitted two incidents where he says he accidentally penetrated the girl while applying lotion to her skin.
The 32-year-old also allegedly informed authorities of two other occasions where inappropriate contact occurred. He said he was naked on the bed after a shower when the girl came into the room and they roughhoused, according to a probable cause statement obtained by KSL.
Michel-Lara was arrested Sunday, following an investigation started by the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS). He is currently charged with two counts of rape of a child. The relationship between the accused and victim has yet to be revealed.
Authorities suspect Michel-Lara is in the country illegally. He was previously arrested on unrelated charges and deported to Mexico. The Cedar County Police Department (CCPD) noted that Michel-Lara could be charged with aggravated re-entry into the United States, The Spectrum reported.
Though the details involving his prior arrest are unknown, court records indicate that a protection order was filed against him in 2016.
The suspect, who was deemed a flight risk, is being held on a $200,000 cash-only bail. According to a jail report, he told his ex-wife that he was going to Washington to see family members prior to his arrest. He’s also being held on an immigration detainer.
Michel-Lara heard the charges against him from jail on Tuesday. An initial hearing is scheduled for August 22.
