A Tennessee school employee was arrested for reportedly soliciting sex with a mother and her young child.
Brian Keith Watson, 38, is accused of posting a Craigslist ad seeking the illicit arrangement, according to KNXV. Undercover detectives reportedly said Watson intended to connect with a mother and her 12-year-old daughter,.
The Murfreesboro Police Department WSMV that the ad, which they discovered on August 24, sought “mothers who were looking for a guy to teach their daughter about the joys of sex.”
Murfreesboro Police Department Detective Tommy Roberts wrote explained how law enforcement was able to apprehend the suspect in an incident report obtained by the news station.
“Det. [Kristy] Inglish turned the case over to the SVU and I began communicating with this person. The communication lasted approximately six days and Mr. Brian Keith Watson was developed as the suspect,” Roberts said.
The Daily News Journal reports that a detective posing as a mother met Watson—who had a 9-month-old in tow—at a local fast food restaurant. The undercover detective managed to hold the baby before police swarmed the eatery and took Watson into custody.
Detectives also seized cell phones and hard drives from Watson. Authorities believe the Tennessee man has victimized other children, according to KNXV.
The 38-year-old was later identified as an electronics technician for Metro North Public Schools (MNPS). The district released the following statement in light of Watson’s arrest:
“MNPS confirms Brian Keith Watson was an employee of the school district. He has been placed on leave, pending the MPD investigation. Watson worked as an electronics technician. His office was located at Metro Southeast. He worked on a variety of electronics issues including school smoke alarms. He had no contact with youth, other than attending to electrical issues involving school maintenance.”
The Department of Children Services (DCS) is also investigating the case because the suspect had a child with him while committing a felony. The infant’s mother later took custody of the 9-month-old, the Daily News Journal reported.
Watson was charged with felony solicitation for the rape of a child. It is unclear at this time whether he remains in custody.
