A teen mother in Ohio has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her infant daughter to death.

According to NBC 4, Columbus police responded to a call of an injured one-year-old baby early Sunday morning on South 22nd Street.

Responders found the one-year-old girl, Lalana Sharpe, suffering from multiple stab wounds and not moving.

The baby girl was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Authorities believe that the baby’s mother, 17-year-old Lachelle Anderson, stabbed her daughter to death.

A motive for the apparent murder is not yet known.

Columbus Police released a statement in response to the horrifying tragedy.

“Any homicide is a tragedy but for a baby to have her life brutally taken is devastating for her family, the community and our officers on the scene investigating this case.”

An investigation is still underway.

Anderson is currently in custody on murder charges.
