A New York City man has admitted to pursuing a 12-year-old girl in public while she was shopping with her mother in Queens.
According to the New York Post, NYPD used facial-recognition technology to apprehend Vladimir Suero, 38, after the girl’s mother reported what appeared to be an attempted kidnapping.
Suero, who lives in Bushwick, Brooklyn, allegedly grabbed the 12-year-old girl while she was in front of a supermarket with her mother on Thursday, telling her in Spanish to come with him.
The suspect has multiple conspicuous tattoos, including one of a Playboy bunny on his neck. Police reportedly released a sketch of the suspect this weekend, and Suero was arrested the next day for petty larceny.
After his arrest, Suero reportedly told police he was mesmerized by the pre-teen, and appeared to downplay the incident.
“I was walking down the street, and I suddenly see a beautiful young girl walking towards me with her family,” Suero said, according to a criminal complaint obtained by the New York Post.
“She was with her mother. I grabbed her by the arm as if to say, ‘You’re coming with me.’ I was just trying to get a reaction. I let her go and kept walking.’”
Suero has been charged with second-degree kidnapping and harassment. He is currently being held on $5,000 bond.
