A New York City man allegedly stabbed his wife to death before jumping out of a window and plummeting eight stories to his death, according to NY Daily News.
DNAinfo reports that Francisco Ferreiras, 69, stabbed Bernarda Ferreiras, 53, Sunday night during an argument about a trip she was taking to the Dominican Republic. After carrying out the fatal act, Francisco went to his bedroom window and jumped out, according to the NYPD.
“I thought somebody had thrown something off the building—something heavy,” neighbor Martiza Carmona recalled. “I can’t forget because the only thing I hear is that hump.”
NY Daily News reports that officers found Bernarda bleeding with several stab wounds to her chest. Medics transported her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Francisco was pronounced dead in a parking lot next to the building, after his alleged suicide. Officers say they’ve recovered the alleged murder weapon, a knife, from his Harlem apartment.
As far as a possible motive for the brutality, sources told the local paper that Bernarda was in the process of leaving her husband and had already found a place to live in the Dominican Republic.
A neighbor, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims there were loud screams prior to the fatal incident.
“They were arguing and then there was one loud scream from the woman. Then I heard what was the man’s body hit the ground,” she told reporters. “It was a loud boom. I looked out the window and I knew he was dead.”
Before this horrific incident, several neighbors had said that the couple appeared happy. They are survived by three daughters.
The investigation is ongoing.
