Authorities are now treating the girlfriend of the Las Vegas shooting suspect as a person of interest in the investigation into the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
The New York Post reports that authorities have continued to question Stephen Paddock’s girlfriend Marilou Danley although the Clark County Sheriff had previously said he did not believe Danley, who was in the Philippines at the time of the massacre, was involved in the shooting that killed 59 people and injured more than 500 others.
On Tuesday, Sheriff Joe Lombardo told the New York Post that Danley has been speaking to law enforcement agents from the Philippines.
“Currently, she’s a person of interest,” the sheriff said.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Danley is expected to return to the United States on Wednesday. A week before the shooting, Paddock reportedly wired $100,000 to the Philippines, but it is not known who was the recipient.
The shooting suspect, a wealthy, high-stakes gambler, reportedly began dating Danley in the spring of this year, and the couple had been living together at Paddock’s home in Mesquite, Nevada, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
The investigation is ongoing.
