Three suspected gang members face an array of criminal charges after what authorities say was a brutal attack on a total of three victims recently in Cleveland, Ohio.
The men, believed to be members of the Heartless Felons gang, are suspected of torturing two residents of an apartment early Thursday morning before shooting a third man who arrived to investigate the disturbance.
Police reports indicate Nathan Ramos Jr., 18, Keli Dunnican, 22, and Troy White, 47, forced their way into the apartment after knocking on the door. They reportedly punched and kicked the 31-year-old and 51-year-old inside, tying the younger victim’s hands behind his back.
Ramos and White were reportedly wearing masks while committing the crime.
The two victims were doused with gasoline, authorities say, and the 31-year-old claims he was sexually assaulted by White with a metal tool as the other two men held him down. The victim reportedly used a homophobic slur to refer to White just prior to the assault.
Investigators believe Dunnican was able to talk the other two men out of setting their victims on fire.
During the altercation, a 41-year-old man reportedly showed up. Police say White brandished a firearm and pointed it at the third man, who began fighting all three suspects. White allegedly shot the man twice in his right leg.
Before leaving, police say Dunnican grabbed a few items from the home and the three men ran away. They led police on a foot pursuit in a residential neighborhood a short distance away. Dunnican and Ramos were apprehended in the area outside a home and White was found shortly thereafter in its garage.
Police reportedly incriminating items on each of the three men. Reports indicate Dunnican had duct tape, a knife, multiple cell phones and items believed to have been stolen from the victims. According to authorities, White was found with a handgun and Ramos was in possession of 14 bags of marijuana.
White, the only one of the three men arrested with a criminal record as an adult, reportedly provided a statement to police in which he claimed to have organized a theft ring with the two men at the apartment. Police say he confessed to smoking crack-cocaine earlier in the day with the men.
In addition to two armed robbery convictions in the past, White is also due in court for a sentencing hearing later this month for a separate apartment burglary.
When investigators searched the crime scene, they reportedly found several crack pipes in addition to the pipe threader police think was used in the sexual assault. They also reported finding a pool of blood, gasoline, and two bullet casings.
White is being held on $100,000 bond and faces felony assault charges.
Duncan is being charged with aggravated robbery and Ramos faces an aggravated burglary charge. Bond was set in their cases at $50,000 and $25,000, respectively.
