A woman seen with Stephen Paddock days before the alleged gunman killed 58 people in a shooting massacre on Sunday night was a prostitute, ABC News has revealed.
Authorities did not release the name of woman they had been seeking but officials have told the news station that she is a sex worker. It is unclear how authorities tracked down the woman, or if she came forward after seeing reports that she had been spotted with the mass shooting suspect.
It is also not clear if the woman was in Paddock’s hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino at any time before the shooting, or exactly what day she was seen with the shooter. Paddock reportedly brought nearly two dozen guns into the room and on Sunday night fired at a crowd of thousands watching a live performance at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. In addition to the nearly five dozen people killed, nearly 500 were injured.
Investigators are still working to identify a motive for the baffling act of mass violence.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Undersheriff Kevin McMahill told NBC News on Friday that he believes Paddock was the only shooter.
“I’m also confident that there were no other people in the room leading up to this event,” McMahill said.
