A video appears to show a McDonald’s employee fighting a pregnant woman as she holds her young daughter.
Speaking with KTRK, Carla DeLeon said she was holding her 3-year-old daughter when the disgruntled woman attacked her—striking the child in the process. Fox News noted that the suspect is believed to be an employee of the Houston, Texas, McDonald’s where the altercation took place.
“How sad is it that you’re going to hit somebody with a baby in their arms and I already stated I was pregnant on top of that?” DeLeon said. “She was scared, and I turned around to look and the woman said, ‘What are you looking at [expletive]?’ I said I just wonder what my daughter’s looking at. That’s it.”
The video, which can be viewed below, appears to show DeLeon calling the employee a “ghetto ass” as the employee throws back profanities and leans over the counter and requests a cup. The worker can be heard threatening to beat up DeLeon as DeLeon continues to call her “ghetto.”
Things escalate, however, after the employee dumps a cup on DeLeon and punches her several times in the face. One man attempts to intervene while other patrons are seen recording the brawl.
“I’ll show you ghetto,” the supposed employee is heard saying while grabbing DeLeon by the hair.
The mother manages to put her daughter down while entangled in the fight. Later on, other patrons and employees step in and try to break up the two women.
The 3-year-old was later treated for a swollen cheek and a small scratch on her face, according to the local station.
“She’s punching and punching and my baby girl got hit,” DeLeon told reporters. “This is what really aggravated me because I wasn’t able to defend her or myself.”
Dexter Kennedy, who recorded the ordeal, told KTRK that he overheard the McDonald’s employee say she was tired of being called names by DeLeon before she emptied the cup over her head. At one point, DeLeon had also called the employee a “stupid ass” and demanded a drink from other staff, according to The Mirror.
“People have their feelings,” Kennedy said. “You don’t know what type of mood someone is in when you’re talking to them in an inappropriate way. I’m sure it’s not something they want to do again.”
Though police weren’t called during the altercation, Houston Police told the New York Daily News that they’re investigating the incident and are working to identify the second woman. DeLeon also said she filed a police report and intends to press charges against her attacker.
