A man was allegedly caught on surveillance camera fleeing an early morning car crash in New York that left a woman dead.
New York Post reports that Saeed Ahmad, 23, crashed his 2007 Infiniti G35 on early Friday morning at around 4:35 a.m., off of the Gowanus Expressway. Police said that after the crash, Ahmad fled the car and took a taxi to the Maimonides Hospital in Borough Park, leaving Harleen Grewel, 25, alone inside the car to die as it burst into flames.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered Grewel’s charred, lifeless body in the passenger seat. Detectives found Ahmad at the hospital getting treatment for burns. They arrested him for aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, speeding, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operation, and negligent homicide.
ABC reports that surveillance footage allegedly caught Ahmad asking a cab driver for a ride to the hospital.
The victim’s family told ABC they were distraught and knew “very little” so far about what happened.
