Two twin brothers found dead in Montana last week likely died in a murder-suicide, according to an autopsy completed Monday.
Authorities say they found 39-year-old Travis Carlson dead of an apparent gunshot wound Thursday afternoon and soon zeroed in on his twin, Eric, as a person of interest.
According to investigators, the body was found in the southeastern portion of the state, outside of Ekalaka in rural Carter County.
Throughout Thursday evening, Carter County sheriff’s officials launched a manhunt for the victim’s brother, according to Newell Broadcasting.
Officers found the Eric Carlson in his home Friday, also dead of a suspected gunshot wound. Investigators believe he shot himself after killing Travis Carlson.
The twins are from Canton, South Dakota, where funeral services will be held Sunday, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader reported.
According to the Billings Gazette, the state Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation into the brothers’ deaths.
The agents will submit their report to Carter County prosecutors upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Authorities have not yet commented on a possible motive.
