An Oklahoma couple who kept their four children in filth and starved their 9-month-old twin girls until they each weighed nine pounds was sentenced to 130 years in prison on Monday.
Tulsa World reported that Aislyn Miller, 24, and Kevin Fowler, 25, were sentenced a month after being convicted for what local police called the “worst case of child abuse” they have ever seen.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, urgent care nurses said the twins looked like skeletons and one had an infected hand from hair being wrapped around her finger and not being removed. The girls also sustained bed sores and severe diaper rash from the ongoing neglect, according to Inside Edition.
The children were taken into protective custody in December and Owasso police arrested the parents shortly after the visit to urgent care. A doctor testified that the girls have made excellent progress since being out of their parents’ care.

Department of Human Services (DHS) investigator Kristi Simpson testified that the Collinsville home had cat feces smeared all over the walls and that maggots were spotted in the girls’ playpen. The investigator also claimed that a maggot was found in one of the girls’ genitals at the hospital, according to Tulsa World.
“It’s what we would term as shocking and heinous,” Simpson said.
On October 13, a jury found the Collinsville parents guilty of five counts of child neglect recommended 30 years for each of the first four counts and 10 years for the fifth count. Judge William Musseman followed the jury’s recommendation when handing down Monday’s sentence.

Miller and Fowler claimed they were overwhelmed raising four small children on top of working long hours and not receiving government assistance. Despite this, Judge Musseman accused the pair of putting their own interests before their children’s well-being.
“It’s my estimation that your kids were on death’s door.”
The children’s maternal grandparents, John and Cathy Miller, and their paternal grandmother, Rita Fowler, will be tried next month on multiple child neglect charges. They have all pleaded not guilty.
