A North Carolina boy was charged in his sister’s stabbing death after he reportedly showed up at a neighbor’s home covered in blood.
According to WHNS, a Weaverville resident called 911 Saturday night and said that a bloodied male knocked on the door and told him that someone had killed his sister.
“He’s got blood all over him,” the caller told the dispatcher. “He’s on my front porch.”
After a brief search, officers found the victim, Kayla Desiree Hensley, 18, at the bottom of their family street near a dumpster, with severe knife lacerations.
A police report obtained by WLOS revealed that Hensley was killed on the family property during a domestic incident.
The victim’s juvenile brother has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with his sister’s death. He is currently being held at the North Carolina Department of Public Safety Juvenile Justice, according to the Citizen-Times.
In a statement, the victim’s mother, Susan Maltry, told WLOS that her daughter overcame various obstacles in her life—including being told that her cerebral palsy means she’ll never walk and being born deaf and receiving cochlear implants.
“She was the best thing that ever happen to me and will be missed by so many. She is and will always be my Hero. In 18 years she has [brought] me so much,” she wrote.
“There’s nothing I could say to make people see how truly blessed I was to have her in my life. She was and always will be my hero.”
