Investigators are seeking to trace the EBT card activity of a mother accused in the horrific murder of her 10-year-old daughter as they search for answers in a senseless, violent rape and killing that is the stuff of nightmares.
KRQE reports that the state of New Mexico has filed a motion to access records of all transactions made on Michelle Marten’s Electronic Benefit Transfer account in the days surrounding Victoria Marten’s August 2016 murder.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Marten is accused of watching her boyfriend Fabian Gonzalez and his cousin Jessica Kelly raped, stabbed and partially dismembered the little girl. The mother is then believed to have made the three of them dinner and had sex with Gonzalez while her dead daughter was left in the bathtub.
All three suspects have pleaded not guilty to murder.
According to the most recent report, court documents suggest that Martens’s EBT transaction could provide clues in the murder investigation. Last week, CrimeOnline reported that investigators have sought to question a drug dealer with connections to at least of the suspects, and organized an undercover sting operation in order to obtain his DNA.
After police apprehended Kelly while she tried to run from the Albequerque home where Victoria was killed, she reportedly indicated there had been more than three people in the home that day. Police have not named any further suspects.
KRQE reports that Human Services Department must hand over the records by Tuesday, November 22.
The suspects are expected to be tried separately, beginning in July 2018.
