A Florida woman is behind bars after she allegedly killed her elderly husband, then duct-taped him and hid him inside a closet, behind a fake brick wall.
The Palm Beach Post reports that Barbara Wozniak, 65, of Shalimir, was charged with second-degree murder Friday night after she reportedly told her children, all adults, that she shot her husband, Alfred Wozniak, 72, after he tried to choke her inside their home on Nov. 10. She claimed it was in self-defense.
The Wozniak children informed the police, who searched the suspect’s home with “a fine tooth comb” until they spotted a fake brick wall inside a closet, under the stairway in the home. Authorities removed the wall and after busting through drywall, found a human body wrapped in tarp. The body had been inside the wall for several days.
According to an autopsy report, the victim, identified as Alfred Wozniak, died from a gunshot wound that entered his left temple and traveled to his skull. The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect spent close to $130 on supplies that she used to hide her husband and clean up the crime scene, including Clorox bleach, duct tape, a tarp, plastic sheets, and 20 pounds of mortar cement.
Wozniak remains in jail on both second-degree murder and tampering with evidence charges.
