Police say a North Carolina mother shot her teenage son before killing herself and a chilling 911 call reveals her distraught family’s reaction to scene.
As the New York Post reported, a caller told dispatchers that he arrived at the home and had to force open the door to a room where family members found 43-year-old Jennifer Craig and her 14-year-old son Kameron.
“I kicked the door in and she’s laying in front of the door,” said the caller, who described finding “blood under the door.”
A relative who was reportedly in the home at the time of the shooting then took the phone and told dispatchers he heard “two loud pops” prior to discovering the bodies.
“I couldn’t get in the door and as I was looking at the door, there was blood just running out,” the individual said.
According to reports, Kameron Craig lived at the home with his grandmother. Jennifer Craig was reportedly at the location for a counseling session with her son.
A Pender County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson confirmed something transpired during that session that prompted a police visit, though the responding officer felt there was no active threat.
“The deputy did everything lawfully possible at the time he spoke with members at the residence,” the department source said.
Jennifer Craig had reportedly mentioned depression in a recent social media post. According to WIS, she died at the scene. Her son was pronounced dead after being transported to two hospitals.
Their organs were reportedly donated to a total of seven recipients.
