A Louisiana mother is behind bars after she allegedly threw her infant son at his father’s feet during an argument between the parents.
NOLA.com reports that Heidy Rios, 24, of Terrytown, was taken into custody on Friday after she allegedly threw the baby boy, fracturing his skull. According to an arrest report obtained by the news outlet, Rios was booked on charges of cruelty to a juvenile.
Initially, Rios reportedly denied injuring her baby, and told officers that she was not holding him before the incident, and said she didn’t know how he got hurt.
But the baby’s father and a second witness told a different story: Rios’s boyfriend said that the tossed the baby at his feet while the couple was arguing, and said “Take your f—–g son.”
Another, “neutral,” witness reported seeing Rios holding the baby before he was hurt. At that point, Rios conceded that she “may have dropped the child” during the heated argument.
According to the police report, doctors said the infant fractured his right temporal bone, on the side of the skull. The injuries are not considered life-threatening, though the newspaper did not have any information about the baby’s current condition or whether he was still hospitalized.
Rios was ordered held without bond and as of Tuesday remains in police custody.
