An Ohio woman was arrested and faces a felony charge after police say she left her naked toddler in a store restroom while she robbed the business.
According to the New York Post, 36-year-old Mary Waguespack was arrested in Alliance on Tuesday after she allegedly tried to steal merchandise from a Dollar General.
The Poland Township woman grabbed a number of items from the store’s shelves with a combined value less than $100, a police report shows.
As she attempted to leave the business through a fire exit, she reportedly activated a security alarm, according to WJW.
Soon after that, it became clear she did not enter the store alone, according to authorities.
Reports indicate Waguespack’s 1-year-old girl exited the restroom and began running around the store naked. Police say the mother was finally able to calm the child before she was arrested.
A WOIO report cites police reports indicating the toddler had to be “corralled” by Waguespack mid-robbery as the unclothed child ran from aisle to aisle through the store.
She is reportedly facing a fourth-degree felony count of child endangerment. The elevated charge is in part due to a prior conviction for child endangerment.
Waguespack will also face a petty theft count for the stolen merchandise, according to authorities.
The suspect’s soon-to-be ex-husband reportedly arrived at the store to pick up the girl.
Social workers at Mahoning County Children Services were reportedly informed of Waguespack’s arrest and the details of the case.
