A New York City subway passenger was struck by a train after two men viciously attacked him in the Union Square station on early Saturday morning, the New York Daily News reports.
The victim, a 41-year-old man, had been waiting for a Q train when he started arguing with the duo from across the tracks just after 3 a.m., according to police. The pair then walked through the station to get near the man and punched him in the head.
The attack knocked the victim to the ground at the edge of the subway platform just as an oncoming train was passing, colliding with the man’s head.
Amazingly, the man survived but he has serious injuries, including cuts to his face, a fractured skull and face, and bleeding on his brain, according to NBC New York. He is undergoing treatment at Bellevue Hospital and is in serious condition, the New York Post reports.
Surveillance cameras captured video of the two suspects running from the scene, according to the Post. Police are actively searching for the assailants.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to call police at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
