The family of a young model whose naked body was found on a landing in a high-rise building in Malaysia continues to push for a deeper probe into the sudden death, as the ex-wife of a man who may be connected to her said in an interview that he was a completely different person when they were married.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Dutch model Ivana Smit, 18, was found dead from an apparent fall in a luxury apartment building in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, last month. The Belgian national was an up-and-coming model in Malaysia, and is believed to have spent her last night alive with a wealthy American cryptocurrency trader and his Indonesian wife, who are rumored to be swingers.

Smit’s family has spoken to the media about perceived holes in the investigation in Malaysia, noting that not all of Ivana’s belongings have been found, though in her final phone communication on the morning of her death she told her boyfriend she was with the couple, now identified as Alexander Johnson and his wife Luna. It is not known what role the couple is playing in the investigation, and the Dutch embassy has reportedly requested that Interpol become involved.

Johnson’s former wifeMary Ann Sgarlato gave an interview to the Daily Mail in which she described her ex-husband as a down-to-earth homebody who “wouldn’t hurt a fly.”

“He was nothing but a kind, faithful and funny guy. We joked that we were like an old, married couple in our twenties. We had family barbecues, we were the family that’s really into Thanksgiving. It was all very apple pie, very vanilla.”

Far from being swingers, Sgarlato said Johnson didn’t even like her to go onto the dance floor when he wasn’t by her side.

Sgarlato said that she and Johnson, who were never able to conceive, had stayed in touch on Facebook over the years, and she had seen photos that indicated he was living a different lifestyle.

“I thought there might be some partying involved [in his life in Malaysia] because of the pictures on his Facebook page … ‘I think he had some partying to get out of him system – we both did as we just didn’t really do that in our twenties, so we did it in our thirties.’

Sgarlato is now 46 and Johnson is 44. She told the Daily Mail that she and Johnson had not been in contact at all in the last couple of years.

“But when I knew him, he wouldn’t have hurt a fly,” she said.
