Authorities said an 8-year-old girl was repeatedly gang-raped by an 18-year-old man and four minors in Pune, India.

The Times of India reported that local police believe the man–along with four youths, ages 9, 10, 12, and 6–lived near the girl and routinely victimized her over the course of five months. Senior inspector Milind Gaikwad said the girl and the underage suspects attended the same school.

The senior inspector said the girl’s father took her to doctor after suffering severe abdominal pain for the past two days. There, the doctor called the mother to the clinic and revealed that the girl was possibly raped.

While at the clinic, the victim told police that the boys would take her to a nearby apartment to rape her. The girl didn’t tell about the incidents because the suspects had threatened her, Times Now wrote.

“She said the 18-year-old first came to her house five months ago and took her away on the promise of giving her sweets. He was joined by the other four and they took turns in raping her,” Gaikwad commented.

According to India Today, the minors were detained at a juvenile facility while the adult suspect was scheduled to appear in court yesterday.
