Two attackers are on the run after allegedly slashing a Texas man’s throat as he thwarted a potential kidnapping.
Othon Maldonado and his wife, Sandra Martinez, pulled into a Houston Whataburger on December 18. They were reportedly exiting their car when two men armed with knives approached them.
Martinez told KSAT that the suspects took her husband’s wallet and cellphone before telling him that they were taking her as well. Maldonado decided to fight off the assailants as they attempted to Martinez from the car. Martinez claimed that the couple recently learned she is pregnant.
During the scuffle, one of the knife-wielding men slashed Maldonado’s throat and stabbed his head and hands, the news station reported. Martinez recalled dragging her injured husband back into the truck and driving to the hospital.
Though Maldonado was released from the hospital Thursday, he still faces a long road to recovery.
Now, police are searching for the men behind the near-fatal incident. Houston police have provided a composite sketch of one of the suspects in hopes that someone will recognize him.
Police described first suspect as being a Hispanic man, 30- to 35-years-old, 5’7″ to 5’10”, 225 to 250 pounds, and having short hair and a “Houston” tattoo on his right arm.
The second man was described as being Hispanic, 30- to 35-years-old, 5’7″ to 5’10″, 160 to 200 pounds, and having short hair.
The men are said to have driven off in a black, four-door car.
Anyone with information about the December 18 incident or the two suspects is urged to contact Houston police.
