A North Carolina woman and her two young children are dead following a horrific series of violent events, all reportedly at the hands of the 34-year-old mother.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Christina Elizabeth Treadway allegedly beat her 3-year-old and 7-year-old children, inflicting what would soon prove to be fatal injury on both Iliyah and Isaiah Miller.
The woman then traveled to a bridge on a nearby interstate highway, where she jumped to her death to the ground below.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police initially found Treadway’s body, sparking an investigation that resulted in their search of a northwest Charlotte home where they found the two children near death. They were both pronounced dead a short time later after arriving at an area hospital.
Police are treating the case as a double murder-suicide, reporting that no one else was at the residence when officers arrived and stating specifically that the young victims’ father is not a person of interest.
As WSOC reported, investigators are now trying to determine what led to the deadly violence.
“Obviously, that’s at the core of this investigation: What would cause someone to be so despondent to want to take their own life and take the lives of their children?” said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Major Mike Smathers. “But that’s going to be a key component of the investigation, and we’re nowhere near ready to speak on that.”
An online fundraiser has been set up by relatives of the deceased to assist with funeral expenses and family travel.
According to investigators, the case is still active and anyone with information related to the deaths can contact a homicide detective at 704-432-TIPS or leave a tip by calling Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
