A woman died on Friday after falling from the 14th floor balcony of a Carnival Cruise Line ship, landing on her the 11th floor, authorities confirm.
Miami Herald reports that the woman was aboard the Carnival Elation, sailing from Jacksonville on a four-day excursion to Freeport, Bahama, when she fell from the balcony on Friday morning.
“The ship’s medical team responded immediately, but, unfortunately, she passed away,”Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliksen confirmed.
Maureen La Bryer told Miami Herald that her daughter sent a text message shortly after the incident, indicating that there was “blood everywhere.” La Bryer’s daughter didn’t know the victim but apparently had a room right next to hers.
“We weren’t [allowed] off the boat to Freeport until they investigated it. They were taking pictures [and everything],” the text message read. “Her room is right by ours and this guy was guarding it the entire day had the door half cracked pitch dark [sic].”
The U.S. Coast Guard, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Department, FBI, and Bahamian law enforcement are currently assisting in the investigation.
Meanwhile, The New Orleans Advocate reports in an another incident, a woman fell from the Carnival Triumph on Sunday night and into the Gulf of Mexico. Carnival Cruise Line spokesman Vance Gulliksen stated that rescue operations are currently looking for the woman, while Carnival’s CARE Team “is providing support and assistance to the guest’s family.”
So far, the identities of both women haven’t been revealed. Check back with CrimeOnline as additional details become available.
