A former Guatemalan beauty queen was reportedly gunned down earlier this month after dropping her daughter off at school.
According to Fox News, closed-circuit surveillance footage captured the deadly encounter.
Rosa Otilia Ramirez, who was once a contestant in the Miss Guatemala pageant, was reportedly shot in the back of her head by an individual who appears in the video to be wearing a mask.
The shooter, clad in a black shirt and jeans, did not appear to catch the victim’s attention as he walked up quickly behind her, grabbed a gun and fired.
Daily Mail obtained the video and published an edited version of the surveillance footage originally released by Guatemalan authorities. The video was reportedly shown on local television news programs in an attempt to elicit tips from viewers.
Police say the shooting occurred around 7 a.m. on Jan. 19 on a sidewalk in Guatemala City, reports indicate.
While authorities had not made any arrests or identified a suspect as of the latest reports available, they believe the gunman knew Ramirez. The homicide is reportedly being investigated as a crime of passion.
Authorities describe the shooting as premeditated.
The suspected personal nature of this crime stands in contrast to much of the violence that has plagued Guatemala in recent years.
According to U.S. statistics, the country is experiencing a critically high crime level with much of the spike due to gang activity. In 2016, more than 4,500 homicides were reported in the Central American nation of just over 14.5 million citizens.
