Authorities in Illinois have reportedly arrested a Nevada man accused of beating his 10-month-old child to death earlier this week in Las Vegas.
According to WGN, 31-year-old Eric Chu was spotted by federal and local law enforcement at a Greyhound bus station in Chicago Friday.
Investigators in Nevada were already looking for him in connection with the unidentified child’s death when they received a tip that he had fled Las Vegas for Chicago.
Reports indicate officers initially responded to a residence in Las Vegas after they were contacted by a medical professional on the scene who advised a boy at the home was not breathing. Police had not confirmed the child’s gender as of the latest updates available.
When police arrived at the location, a man began to threaten them upon their discovery of the young victim, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The victim was reportedly transported an area hospital, then to the trauma center at University Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead the following evening.
The suspect was taken into custody Friday afternoon at the bus station by the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, bureau spokesperson Garrett Croon said. \
Members of the arresting team included FBI agents, Chicago police officers and Cook County sheriff’s deputies.
Chu was scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing Saturday as he awaits extradition to Nevada.
Las Vegas authorities explained that the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information about the child’s death to call the agency’s abuse and neglect section at 702-828-3364 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
