A young woman in Columbus, Ohio, was found dead in her apartment the day after her 24th birthday — and police believe she is a homicide victim.
According to WKBN, Columbus Police found Rachael Anderson dead of an apparent homicide in her apartment on Allegheny Avenue last Monday. Police have not released the cause of death but it is being investigated as a murder.
“We don’t know exactly what happened, what caused her death, but the homicide unit is currently investigating,” Sgt. Dean Worthington told the news station.
“From here, the homicide detectives will wait for the coroner’s office to determine the cause of death and, of course, they’ll continue to look for any witnesses and suspects that may be out there.”
Anderson’s acquaintances became concerned when she did not show up for work at her job at the Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, and police were reportedly called for a wellness check.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Anderson had recently attended Youngstown College and made the dean’s list, though it is unclear if she was currently enrolled or had graduated.
Social media posts late last week reportedly show Anderson and her mother celebrating Rachael’s birthday a few days early.
Anyone with information about Anderson’s death is urged to contact police at 614-645-4730. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
This is a developing story. CrimeOnline will update when more information becomes available.
