A Texas doctor was arrested this week on suspicion of murdering his neighbors as they helped his mother move a piece of furniture.
According to the Seguin Gazette, 27-year-old Anthony Ray Strait and 30-year-old Tiffany Leann Strait were gunned down Sunday morning in the Elm Grove neighborhood near Seguin.
As Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Investigator Lt. Craig Jones explained, investigators have determined “no apparent reason” for the shootings. He said there were “no indications there was a feud, disturbance or anything precipitating or justifying the shooting.”
KSAT reported that police believe 56-year-old physician Robert Edward Fadal II retrieved a rifle and opened fire on the couple in front of their children.
“They were at the doctor’s mom’s house helping her move a piece of furniture,” Jones said.
Shots rang out shortly before noon on Sunday, according to reports, with neighbor Rudy Soto recalling that he heard a total of six.
“I heard this voice, ‘Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!'” he said. “Then I heard two more shots, and the voice stopped.”
Soto said he has known both the male victim and the suspect for years, describing Fadal as “one of the nicest persons” he knew.
“It’s just a big tragedy that happened,” he said. “And I really don’t know what’s going to come out of it.”
Jones confirmed he had been called to the residence for unrelated reasons on previous occasions.
First responders reportedly pronounced Anthony Strait dead at the scene and Tiffany Strait died a short time after she was transported to an area hospital.
Their three children were with relatives as of the latest reports available.
Fadal was arrested and placed in custody at Guadalupe County Jail. He is expected to face charges including capital murder.
